As I lay here His body curled warm against mine My face Buried into his mousey hair Soft as Silk He smells of Earth And of Sunshine Mixed with the sweetness Of little boy sweat My nostrils take it all in A fun filled day behind him He sighs Beneath half closed lids His dark blue eyes peer up at me So blue, so wise Like deep pools They sparkle in the last light of evening Within them A knowing, a peace An unspoken, all-trusting love His small dirt encrusted hand Lay, oh-so-gentle, on my breast Breasts that nurtured and comforted him The first four years of his life No longer nourishment, yet comfort still Warm Soft Home I'm sure he feels the familiar pum-pum My heartbeat A sound he knows well As much a part of him as it is me Touch, sounds, smells Familiar Comfort Love As I lay here His lips curl into his sweet smile His eyes flutter and gently close Another sigh of contentment My face again buried into his hair The Earth The Sun A hint of lemongrass Sweet sweat A wisp of dinner on his cheek I breathe him all in His breath is soft and even I kiss his head Whispering words of love And we sleep ..............................................
